Skype Guitar Lessons
Bespoke Online Tuition
Whether you’d like to explore a topic, answer a question or generally reinvigorate your practice/playing, I am available for 1-to-1 lessons via Skype.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, I hold a PhD in Jazz Performance/Improvisation and have been helping others learn about music, improvisation and the guitar for over 15 years.
This experience in private instruction and university lecturing, combined with thousands of hours spent refining my own craft in performance, allows me to quickly understand your goals and communicate the most effective, real-world applicable solutions, tailored to meet your individual needs.
‘Mark has been a massive help in getting me to the next level as a guitarist. His wealth of knowledge and ability to break things down in a way that’s not overwhelming has been invaluable.’
Joseph Greer (Guitarist, The Temper Trap)
‘Skype lessons with Mark have made such a difference to the way I am practising and thinking about the guitar. For any player who wants to learn about improvisation or just become a better musician, I couldn’t recommend lessons enough.’
Paul Starrett (Guitarist)

Who I Teach
Most of my students are guitarists interested in jazz, blues and improvisation.
As the principles of music and improvisation are universally applicable, I have an additional, smaller number of students playing instruments such as saxophone, trumpet and piano.
What You’ll Learn
Here are a few examples of topics in which my students are typically interested:
- Improvising over chord changes
- Playing in the style of particular guitarists
- Solo guitar/chord melody playing
- Ear training
- Sight reading
Every lesson is supported by a unique practice plan developed specifically to address what we’ve covered during that session and containing everything you’ll need to maximise progress.
