Pat Martino Lines – ‘Oleo’ (4)
Where the previous post examined Pat Martino’s use of the Eb melodic minor scale over C minor accompaniment, this lesson offers a further short and easily applied ‘outside’ example showcasing modulation up a half-step to Db minor.
Again sourced from Martino’s solo on jazz standard ‘Oleo’, the transcription includes suggested picking/articulation and a time reference for those who’d like to listen in the context of the original recording.
The implied modulation to Db minor is marked, so pay close attention to Martino’s use of a common chromatic approach pattern resolving neatly to Eb (the 3rd of C minor) on beat 3 of the 3rd bar.
